Superman was originally created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. Superman the character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938 and has been around to the present day featuring in many Superman films, The man of steel Superman is born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being sent to earth to Earth as an infant by his scientist father moments before the planet's destruction. Superman was raised by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent growing up in Clarksville he has many friends including his child hood sweetheart Lana Lang, Another child hood friend has turned out to be one of superman's deadliest enemies ...Lex Luthor .Where upon reaching maturity Clark Kent develops superhuman abilities, resolving to use these for the benefit of all mankind. when clark kent sees trouble he runs to the nearest phone booth to change into his superman costume and then he is ready to save the world like any good superhero should. Superman or Clark Kent has a girlfriend called Lois Lane who appears in the superman stories along with Jimmy Olsen who as well as Clark and Lois works at the daily planet newspaper. Superman unlike Batman has many super powers like the ability to fly, and  x-ray vision, "faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound", was a phrase coined by Jay Morton and first used in the Superman radio serials, But Superman does have an Achilles heel in the form of kryptonite which drains him of all of his super powers. The Superman phenomenon is still as popular as ever with all shapes and forms of Superman merchandise, toys and collectibles being sold in all parts of the world. Superman's character was played in the early movies most famously by Christopher Reeve. Superman is currently played in the new film superman returns by Brandon Routh.other actors who have played Superman include  Kirk Alyn, George Reeves, Dean Cain and Tom Welling.
